By the time Kor-Sen had been at the Academy for ten years or so, he had become a renowned scholar; shelves and shelves in the vast, dim library were stacked with scrolls and leather-bound books of his works. Some were in his own hand, some lovingly copied by admiring disciples. Scholars travelled from all over the islands, and from all the lands of Akent, to consult him or to study his writings. He began to be received into the wealthy society of Drelk’s merchants, attending balls and dinners and receptions, and became quite rich himself by tutoring their children at exorbitant rates and by accepting munificent gifts from his patrons. The fame of his charm had preceded him, and he received a good deal of attention from the merchant’s ladies.
